Job Description

The Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects related to power solutions deployed on telecom sites. This role serves as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for all technical questions, ensuring that all site design, technical standards, and operational practices meet high standards. The role involves working closely with the Head of Operations & Maintenance, mentoring field staff, and ensuring the successful implementation of renewable energy solutions and other power technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • To act as the Technical Authority within the OPCO and be the SPOC for all technical related questions, including
    site design approvals as well as the standard of what is operationally acceptable practices from any on-going
    project related works.
  • Works closely with the Group Technical Director to ensure compliance to technical standards.
  • Carries out due diligence with locals suppliers to ensure that they can perform the work to which they have been
    contracted.
  • To be accountable for the technical design of all power solutions deployed onto a site, including renewable
    energy solutions
  • Oversees the implementation and gives feedback on the technical and OPEX performance of all new technology
    and O&T project initiatives introduced to the OPCO.
  • Approves project designs as fit for purpose
  • To enforce a recognised level of Best Practice is applied to all technical activities carried out on site
  • To mentor all field staff in Technical best practice
  • To carry out random site technical audits to ensure compliance with all relevant technical and SHE requirements,
    including the correct installation/operation of all site electrical safety components
  • Responsible for arranging and/or providing training to all field staff on all technologies implemented
  • Leads Investigations on repetitive failures and provide permanent solutions
  • Responsible for technology trials
  • Leads SOP training and training activities with suppliers
  • Ensures Product Quality inspections are carried out
  • Takes feedback from the fields for improvement and communicate lessons learnt

Qualifications

  • Practical knowledge of AC & DC power solutions as applicable to a telecoms environment
  • Hands on diagnostic skills for power generation solutions up to a minimum of 60kVA
  • Exposure to and understanding of Renewable Energy solutions within the African Continent (including Solar,
    Wind, Power Cubes & Battery Cycling)
  • Best technical practices in small scale site power generation environments
  • Understanding of Safety Health and Environment best practices
  • Understanding of an End-2-End power solution, from AC to DC, and all technical components and safety devices
    which make up the overall solution
  • Exposure to remote monitoring solutions and Deep-Sea control panels is highly desirable
  • Understanding of OPEX costs

Requirements

Education and Required Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience working in an Electrical/Mechanical.
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory role
  • 5-7 years of hands on experience of AC & DC power solutions, including diagnostics and trouble resolution.
  • Exposure to and understanding of internationally acceptable power practices
  • Able to demonstrate effective Management of field based work forces

Languages

  • French, Level: Fluent, Required
  • English, Level: Working knowledge, added advantage
