What is the Business Ambition for 1.5ºC?
The Business Ambition for 1.5ºC campaign is a call to action for business leaders to commit to setting science-based goals to reduce their companies’ greenhouse gas emissions. This call to action was presented by the United Nations Global Compact, linked to the United Nations (UN), which encourages companies to adopt corporate social responsibility and sustainability policies, and by the Science Based Targets.
Why 1.5ºC?
To contain climate catastrophes and avoid irreversible damage to the global population, the most current climate science, systematized in the IPCC Special Report, published in 2018, indicates that it is necessary to limit the temperature increase to up to 1.5ºC. The level is in line with the Paris Agreement (2015), a commitment signed between 196 nations to keep the increase in the Earth’s temperature below 2°C.
